TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Freightliner M2 Electric Moving Truck

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, the nation’s largest franchised moving company, and Clean Fuels Ohio are excited to announce the debut of the company’s first all-electric moving truck for its central Ohio operations. The zero emissions, 100% electric powered-system Class 6 moving truck will be the first truck of its kind in the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® system nationwide. The truck made its first appearance at the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Columbus, Ohio office on May 4th, 2022. This EV truck pilot demonstration is supported by grant funding awarded by the US Department of Energy Vehicle Technologies Office to demonstrate the viability of medium-/heavy-duty EVs in vocational fleet applications.

“This is special because it is the first in our business and our brand, and it is not common in our industry,” said Justin Clarey, owner of TWO MEN AND TRUCK® in Columbus. “Next to labor, our fleet is a big part of our business. It is one of the largest expenses because trucks need maintenance, fuel, and fluids. If we have the potential to drastically change how our fleet operates, this would be a special moment for our business.” A short video of the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® EV truck announcement can be viewed here.

Through a partnership with SEA Electric and W.W. Williams, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® was able to convert an existing Class 6 Freightliner M2 truck by utilizing SEA Electric’s SEA-Drive® 120b (Class 5-7) Electric Power-System that would normally have been retired or sold into a zero-emissions truck resulting in potentially saving fuel and maintenance costs in the future. SEA Electric offers a full line of electrification solutions adaptable to Class 2b vans all the way up to Class 8 refuse trucks. W.W. Williams is one of the nation’s most diversified solutions providers, offering customers with mechanical service and repair, power generation, transport refrigeration, warehousing, and logistics.

Led by Clean Fuels Ohio, the “Heavy Duty EV Demonstrations in Freight & Mobility Solutions: Proof of Concept in New Communities and Fleets” project started in late 2019 and is designed to prove the operational and financial effectiveness of medium/heavy-duty electric vehicles (EVs) in new fleets and communities. Today’s world is ruled by data, and fleet operators and decision makers are looking for better analysis and data to drive vehicle replacement and purchase decisions. This project is designed to showcase significant return on investment that will lead to Class 4-8 EV adoption in various fleet applications across the country.

“Clean Fuels Ohio is thrilled about the deployment of this upfitted, all-electric Class 6 moving truck for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Columbus and its central Ohio operations with support from SEA Electric and W.W. Williams that will completely eliminate the vehicle’s tailpipe emissions and significantly lower operating costs. This partnership demonstrates the successful possibilities for medium-/heavy-duty electric vehicle adoption for fleets and decision makers looking to improve vehicle performance, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability in their operations. Through grant funding awarded by the U.S. Department of Energy Vehicle Technologies Office, we are pleased to provide this opportunity to all partners involved and looking forward to seeing the vehicle in operation and how it will lead to more future electrification opportunities’, said Tim Cho, Project Manager with Clean Fuels Ohio.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® is going to be testing and reviewing data on this truck for the next two years in hopes that they can prove it has potential to save on fuel and maintenance as a highly productive vehicle in its fleet.
