In response to this announcement from our member, General Motors, Director of Drive Electric Ohio, Brendan Kelley made the following statement:
“Clean Fuels Ohio celebrates GM’s commitment to reaching carbon neutrality by 2040. We applaud their plan to phase out internal combustion vehicles and electrify 40% of its U.S. models by the end of 2025.
The announcement highlights the rise of electric vehicle adoption across the world. In bringing 30 all-electric models to the global market this decade, General Motors embraces the advanced fuel technologies needed to support a growing economy and job market. Reaching for science-based targets, GM leads the pack of automakers in creating healthier communities and cleaner jobs for all people.
There is huge momentum and innovation in the auto industry. Announcements from GM and the Biden administration this week signal that the industry is entering a new age of transportation. We hope and believe this will be the first of many commitments from automakers rallying behind EVs, lowering carbon emissions, and creating dynamic and new economic opportunities.”
