Clean Fuels Ohio is celebrating 20 years of industry leadership, 20 years of relationship building, and 20 years of hands-on education and advocacy this year. Officially designated by the U.S. Department of Energy in April 2002, Clean Fuels Ohio has seen immense growth over the last 20 years. As alternative fuels and advanced vehicle technologies have moved to the center of many conversations, both within and outside of the industry, Clean Fuels Ohio is celebrating our years of hard work, success, and community and looking forward to the next 20 with our networks of members, stakeholders, and coalition partners.
Clean Fuels Ohio is the official Clean Cities Coalition for the entire state of Ohio and takes pride in serving 12 million Ohioans every day by providing a cleaner environment and more prosperous economy. In the past 10 years alone, Clean Fuels Ohio has achieved just shy of reducing one million tons of greenhouse gas emissions (CO2e), cut the use of approximately 300 million gallons of gasoline, and certified 111 green fleets in the state.
Our organization achieved such success because of the hard work of our members, stakeholders, and mission-centered programs. Our Policy Program enacts local, state, and federal change by crafting policy and educating policymakers. Our Policy team is currently celebrating the introduction of SB 307, Accelerating Ohio’s Auto Industry (AOAI), that we have been working on for more than a year. Beyond the internal staff work, waves of members and stakeholders have come out in support of the bill by signing the AOAI Sign-On Letter, providing written and verbal testimony, hosting site tours throughout the state, and more.
Our Consulting Services program works with fleets and other implementers across Ohio to successfully deploy alternative fuels and advanced vehicle technologies. Our Consulting Services team has an immensely successful track record of providing analysis, planning, and grant writing assistance public and private fleets to deploy alternative fuel vehicles. As of this year, we have officially certified 111 Green Fleets through our Ohio Green Fleets program and have worked to reduce the emissions of thousands of fleet vehicles throughout the state.
Drive Electric Ohio is our consumer-facing program dedicated to grassroots engagement with and throughout communities. The program has expanded to six local chapters with a seventh in the works and works with volunteers of EV advocates to educate the public on the benefits of driving electric vehicles. The Drive Electric Ohio program also regularly convenes our EV stakeholder committee which discusses and strategizes around the biggest opportunities and obstacles for EV adoption in the state.
Clean Fuels Ohio has also seen much success throughout the years in our Department of Energy funded projects. Our U.S. DOE project team is currently managing involvement in seven projects covering the wide swath of alternative fuel options available. Read more about these projects at our website.
Clean Fuels Ohio is not just spending this time reflecting on the past though, we also have big plans for the future. Over the coming years, we plan to open two satellite offices – one in Northeast Ohio and one in Southwest Ohio – to expand our geographical presence throughout the state. We plan to use these offices to build our capacity to provide more consulting, analysis, and planning services and write and secure more grants. A physical presence throughout the state will also help develop more grassroots community partners to increase engagement with consumers in key areas. This expansion will also increase our capacity for more outreach, education, and policy development.
To help support our goals, we’re offering our networks the opportunity to donate their time, their voice, and their money. We’ll be releasing information on various volunteer opportunities and how to get involved with the local EV chapters, how to submit testimony, and how to provide a monetary donation in April. Subscribe to our newsletter and keep an eye on our Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn for further announcements!
We’ll be celebrating our 20th anniversary at our Midwest Green Transportation Forum & Expo (MWGT) on September 27-28th at the Crowne Plaza Columbus North-Worthington. We’ll be hosting a special anniversary reception the evening of the 28th at the hotel to bring together members, partners, donors, and long-time advocates of the work we’ve done over the past 20 years. Pricing for the MWGT general admission, sponsorships, and exhibitor slots will be released soon. If you would like to provide input to help guide our MWGT program planning, please fill out this brief survey. We look forward to celebrating together in-person this September!
